Alaska Glaciers, Wildlife & Wilderness

Take a guided glacier trek on the Matanuska Glacier located in the Chugach Mountains

Day 1 — Anchorage to Glennallen

  • Arrival in Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city located at the base of the Chugach Mountains
  • Check into a late model rental vehicle in Anchorage (vehicle provided with unlimited mileage)
  • Enjoy sweeping mountain vistas and hanging glaciers as you drive the Glenn Highway from Anchorage to Glennallen (approx. 3-hour drive)
  • Explore Hatcher Pass, famous for its Wild Blueberries and wildflower displays. Visit the historical Independence State Mine.
  • Take a guided 3-hour glacier hike on Matanuska Glacier (no experience necessary)
  • Enjoy wildlife viewing of Dall Sheep at Sheep Mtn

Day 2 — Wrangell St. Elias National Park

  • Enjoy a scenic wilderness drive through Wrangell St. Elias National Park (approx. 3 hours of drive time)
  • Explore the quaint village of McCarthy in Wrangell S. Elias National Park
  • Take a guided tour of the historical Kennecott Mine
  • Have lunch at the scenic Kennicott Glacier Lodge
  • Spend the afternoon exploring Wrangell St. Elias National Park – Enjoy a return drive to Glennallen

Pass by three different mountain ranges on a scenic wilderness drive to Denali

Day 3 — Glennallen to Denali

  • Enjoy one of Alaska’s most famous wilderness drives; travel from Glennallen to Denali through 240 miles of wilderness – the drive includes the remote Richardson Highway, the Denali Highway (a dirt road of 130 miles), and part of the Parks Highway
  • Drive the first 15 miles of the Denali National Park Road to Savage River, where it is common to see Moose, Caribou, Dall Sheep, and Grizzly Bears.
  • Enjoy a guided 3.5-hour ATV Tour exploring the backcountry of Denali – wilderness BBQ meal included

Day 4 — Denali National Park

  • Pick up a picnic backpack lunch for your day in Denali National Park

Day 5 — Denali to Anchorage

  • Enjoy a scenic drive down the Parks Highway from Denali to Anchorage (approx. 4-hour drive)
  • Explore Denali State Park – enjoy beautiful scenery and wildlife viewing
  • Arrive in Talkeetna located on the south side of Denali – a quaint historical bush town known for its famous bush-plane flights to Denali and mountain climbing community
  • Take a 1.5-hour Flight-Seeing tour of Denali and the Alaska Range (glacier landing included)
  • Enjoy a mid-afternoon meal at the charming Talkeetna Roadhouse.
  • Return down the Parks and Glenn Highways driving from Talkeetna to Anchorage – enjoy another opportunity to experience wildlife viewing and sightseeing
