  • Alaska and the Arctic are well-known for offering some of the best locations in the world to see the Aurora Borealis. The Northern Lights are often observable with clear and dark skies from late August to early April.  You can keep track of the Aurora Forecast and activity level through the University of Fairbanks Geophysical Institute at https://www.gi.alaska.edu/monitors/aurora-forecast.
  • During the Northern Lights season, you can witness the Aurora Borealis  from various locations. While there are many locations in Alaska and the Yukon where you can observe the Aurora Borealis, some of the most visited tend to include Fairbanks to Coldfoot, Denali, and Dawson City; these communities are close to the Aurora Belt, providing a better chance of seeing the Aurora if the skies are clear.
  • Late August to early October is a fantastic time for scenic fall color drives, wildlife spotting, and local activities. This period can be a good time for bear viewing, perhaps observing caribou migrating, and witnessing birds heading south.
  • During the winter and spring, Alaska becomes a winter wonderland, offering a variety of outdoor activities,  festivals, and wildlife viewing opportunities. Outdoor enthusiasts often enjoy dog sledding, snowshoeing, downhill and cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, glacier trekking, fat tire bike riding, and wildlife viewing.  Alaska and the Yukon are known for their colorful and diverse seasonal festivals.
