Explore Denali State Park – Enjoy Wildlife Viewing

Day 1 — Anchorage to Denali

  • Arrival in Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city located at the base of the Chugach Mountains
  • Check into a late model rental vehicle in Anchorage (vehicle provided with unlimited mileage)
  • Drive from Anchorage to Denali on the scenic Glenn & Parks Highway (approx. 4-hour drive)
  • Take a guided tour of a Musk Ox Farm and learn about these unique Ice Age animals, their fine underwool of Qiviut, and their historical native relationship in the Far North.
  • Enjoy a meal at the McKinley View Lodge Cafe
  • Drive the first 15 miles of the Denali National Park Road to Savage River, where it is common to see Moose, Caribou, Dall Sheep, and Grizzly Bears

Spend the day exploring Denali National Park

Day 2 — Denali National Park

  • Pick up a picnic backpack lunch for your day in Denali National Park
  • Watch a Denali Nat’l Park Ranger sled-dog presentation to learn about managing the park during the winter season
  • Spend the day exploring Denali National Park. Take the Shuttle Transit Bus for a 6-hour tour. Enjoy extensive wildlife viewing and beautiful scenery at your own pace

Soak in the Chena Hot Springs

Day 3 — Denali to Fairbanks

  • Drive from Denali to Fairbanks on the Parks Highway (approx. 2-hour drive) – Arrive in the Far North remote small city of Fairbanks.
  • Visit the Univ of Alaska Fairbanks Museum – Enjoy presentations & information about living in the Far North
  • Take a relaxing soak at the Chena Hot Springs – Visit the Aurora Ice Museum

Day 4 — Dalton Highway - Arctic Circle

  • Enjoy a wilderness journey to the Arctic Circle – Travel up the Dalton Highway on a guided road trip (in a comfortable van or coach) on this all-day tour to explore the Far North wilderness.
  • Visit an Arctic Trading Post, Cross the Yukon River and look for wildlife as you enjoy the tundra and mountain scenery

Drive the Denali Highway

Day 5 — Fairbanks to Glennallen

  • Visit the community of North Pole and the world’s largest Santa
  • Enjoy a scenic wilderness drive from Fairbanks to Glennallen on the Alaska and Richardson Highway – view several mountain ranges as you travel the scenic backroads
  • Have lunch at the Tangle Lakes Lodge Cafe located in a beautiful wilderness setting of of the scenic Denali Highway

Visit Wrangell St. Elais National Park

Day 6 — Wrangell St Elias National Park

  • Spend the day exploring Wrangell St Elias National Park; Stop by the Wrangell St. Elias Park Visitor Center, where guided hikes, presentations, and exhibits are available.
  • Explore the quaint village of McCarthy in Wrangell S. Elias National Park

Travel the scenic Glenn Highway

Day 7 — Glennallen to Anchorage

  • Drive the scenic Glenn Highway from Glennallen to Anchorage (approx. 3 hours of drive time)
  • Enjoy wildlife viewing of Dall Sheep at Sheep Mtn.
  • Ride the Anchorage Trolley to visit historic locations throughout downtown Anchorage.
  • Take a stroll along the scenic Tony Knowles Coastal Trail to explore the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge and look for wildlife.
  • Return rental vehicle at the Anchorage Airport
