Day 1 — Arrival into Fairbanks

  • Arrive in Fairbanks – the Gateway to the Far North of Alaska
  • Check into a new model rental vehicle in Fairbanks – vehicle provided with unlimited miles.
  • Enjoy an all-you-can-eat Salmon Bake & BBQ & Watch the Golden Heart Revue playing in the Palace Theatre
  • Enjoy a relaxing soak at the Chena Hot Springs – Visit the Aurora Ice Museum.

Travel aboard the historic Riverboat Discovery

Day 2 — Explore Fairbanks

  • Ride the historic steamboat Riverboat Discovery down the Chena River
  • Tour the historic Gold Dredge Number 8, enjoy a short ride on a historic train, and try your hand at gold panning
  • Spend some time exploring the Morris Thompson Culture Center – Explore Fairbanks, enjoy a river walk along the Chena River

Ride the Alaska Railroad – Denali Star

Day 3 — Rail Travel Fairbanks to Denali

  • Take the Alaska Railroad – Denali Star from Fairbanks to Denali and enjoy the Adventure Class experience (approximately a 4-hour tour).
  • Arrive at the Denali Train Station – Check into a rental vehicle to use throughout your stay in Denali.
  • Drive the first 15 miles of the Denali National Park Road to Savage River, where it is common to see Moose, Caribou, Dall Sheep, and Grizzly Bears.

Spend the day exploring Denali National Park

Day 4 — Denali National Park

  • Pick up a picnic backpack lunch for your day in Denali National Park
  • Watch a Denali Nat’l Park Ranger sled-dog presentation to learn about managing the park during the winter season
  • Spend the day exploring Denali National Park. Take the Shuttle Transit Bus for a 6-hour tour. Enjoy extensive wildlife viewing and beautiful scenery at your own pace

Enjoy wildlife viewing at Potters Marsh

Day 5 — Rail Travel Denali to Anchorage

  • Return the rental car – transportation provided to the Denali Train Station.
  • Ride the Alaska Railroad in Adventure Class from Denali to Anchorage. During the approximately 8-hour journey, take in the stunning Alaskan wilderness. There’s a train cafe onboard to purchase meals, drinks, and snacks.
  • When you arrive in Anchorage, you will be provided with transportation to the rental car location, where you can check into a late-model rental vehicle with unlimited mileage.
  • Enjoy a 50-minute drive along the scenic Seward Highway from Anchorage to Girdwood.

Visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center

Day 6 — Girdwood to Seward

  • Drive down the beautiful Seward Highway (a National Scenic Byway) from Girdwood to Seward (approx. 1.5-hour drive)
  • Arrive into the picturesque small bayside village of Seward – the gateway to the Kenai Fjords National Park
  • Visit a wildlife conservation center to learn about animal research, conservation, and animal care.
  • Tour the Alaska Sealife Center, one of Alaska’s most extensive marine wildlife research centers.

Day 7 — Kenai Fjords National Park

  • Enjoy a full day of wildlife and glacier viewing aboard a high-speed catamaran – explore Resurrection Bay and the Kenai Fjords National Park with a National Park Ranger on board – a deli-style lunch and hot beverages provided
  • Explore the scenic Caines Head Trail, which is famous for wildlife viewing and sweeping mountain vistas.

Day 8 — Seward to Anchorage

  • Ride behind a sled dog team with a local musher – Tour their training grounds.
  • Enjoy a return drive from Seward to Anchorage on the Seward Highway
  • Visit Portage Glacier Valley, known for its display of wildflowers & hanging glaciers.
  • Ride the Anchorage Trolley to visit historical locations throughout downtown Anchorage.
  • Return rental vehicle, transportation provided to the Anchorage Airport
