Enjoy a scenic drive down the Kenai Peninsula

Day 1 — Anchorage to Homer

  • Arrival in Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city located at the base of the Chugach Mountains
  • Check into a late model rental vehicle in Anchorage (vehicle provided with unlimited mileage)
  • Drive the scenic Seward and Sterling Highways down the Kenai Peninsula from Anchorage to Homer (approx. 4 hours drive time)
  • Visit the small mountain community of Girdwood.
  • Visit a wildlife conservation center to learn about animal research, conservation, and animal care.
  • Arrive into Homer – a bay-side village with fantastic views located on the shores of Kachemak Bay State Park.

Travel aboard the historical Danny J to Halibut Cove

Day 2 — Explore Homer

  • Explore the bayside community of Homer- enjoy wildlife viewing and sightseeing in the Homer area.
  • Explore the Homer Spit, enjoy day hiking and visiting Homers Nature Centers
  • Take the historical Danny J Ferry across Kachemak Bay to Halibut Cove, a remote, unique Alaskan village (accessible only by small boat and bush plane)

Visit Exit Glacier and the Harding Icefield

Day 3 — Homer to Seward

  • Drive from Homer to Seward ( 179 miles, approx. 3.5 hour drive)
  • Arrive into the picturesque small bayside village of Seward – the gateway to the Kenai Fjords National Park
  • Visit Exit Glacier and the Harding Ice Field
  • Ride behind a sled dog team with a local musher – spend time touring their training grounds while learning about their way of life.

Enjoy wildlife viewing in the Kenai Fjords National Park

Day 4 — Kenai Fjords National Park

  • Enjoy a full day of wildlife and glacier viewing aboard a high-speed catamaran – explore Resurrection Bay and the Kenai Fjords National Park with a National Park Ranger on board – a deli-style lunch and hot beverages provided
  • In the early evening, explore the Caines Head Trail, where it is common to see Bald Eagles and Marine Wildlife along the shores of Resurrection Bay.

Travel aboard the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry in the Prince William Sound

Day 5 — Seward to Valdez

  • Drive from Seward to Whittier (90-mile drive, including the Bear Valley Tunnel)
  • Visit Portage Glacier Valley, known for its display of wildflowers & hanging glaciers.
  • Travel across the Prince William Sound aboard the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry from Whittier to Valdez (6-hour trip – vehicle included)
  • Arrive in the small city of Valdez, located on the shores of the Prince William Sound.

Explore Wrangell St Elias and the Copper River Valley

Day 6 — Valdez to Glennallen

  • Enjoy the scenic Richardson Highway from Valdez to Glennallen (2 hours of drive time)
  • Explore Worthington Glacier, Thompson Pass, and Blueberry Lake, which are famous for their mountain vistas and wildflowers.
  • Visit Wrangell St. Elias National Park & the scenic Copper River Valley.
  • Arrive into the small community of Glennallen, located close to Wrangell St. Elias National Park.

Enjoy a wagon wilderness ride to a gourmet BBQ Dinner

Day 7 — Glennallen to Denali

  • Enjoy one of Alaska’s most famous wilderness drives. Travel from Glennallen to Denali through 240 miles of wilderness, including the remote Richardson Highway, the Denali Highway (a 120-mile dirt road), and part of the Parks Highway.
  • Drive the first 15 miles of the Denali National Park Road to Savage River, where it is common to see Moose, Caribou, Dall Sheep, and Grizzly Bears.
  • Travel behind a horse and wagon team to a remote wilderness BBQ dinner

Spend the day exploring Denali National Park

Day 8 — Denali National Park

  • Pick up a picnic backpack lunch for your day in Denali National Park.
  • Watch a Denali Nat’l Park Ranger sled-dog presentation to learn about managing the park during the winter season.
  • Spend the day exploring Denali National Park. Take the Shuttle Transit Bus for a 6-hour tour. Enjoy extensive wildlife viewing and beautiful scenery at your own pace.

Day 9 — Denali to Talkeetna

  • Drive the scenic Parks Highway from Denali to Talkeetna (approx. 2-hour drive)
  • Explore Denali State Park – enjoy beautiful scenery and wildlife viewing.
  • Arrive in Talkeetna, located on the south side of Denali. This quaint historical bush town is known for its famous bush plane flights to Denali and mountain climbing community.
  • Take a 1-hour Flightseeing Tour of Denali and the Alaska Range.

Drive the scenic Parks Highway

Day 10 — Talkeetna to Anchorage

  • Enjoy a scenic drive from Talkeetna to Anchorage on the Parks & Glenn Highway (approx. 2 hour drive)
  • Explore Hatcher Pass, famous for its Wild Blueberries and wildflower displays. Visit the historical Independence State Mine.
  • Ride the Anchorage Trolley to visit historical locations throughout downtown Anchorage.
  • Look for wildlife while you take a stroll along the scenic Tony Knowles Coastal Trail to explore the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge.
  • Return rental vehicle, transportation provided to the Anchorage Airport
